Initial or follow-up: which acupuncture appointment should you book?

If you're hovering over the booking button unsure which option to choose, this is the short, clear answer.

It's one of the most common questions we're asked, and it has a genuinely simple answer. The choice comes down to one thing: whether you've been treated here before.

New to the clinic? Book an initial acupuncture appointment

If this is your first visit to Ānshén Acupuncture, an initial acupuncture appointment is the one for you. It runs for 90 minutes, and that length is deliberate.

Your first appointment isn't only a treatment. It's where we take a full health history, talk through what's brought you in and what you'd like to work toward, and complete a Chinese medicine assessment before any needles are placed. That groundwork shapes everything that follows, so we set aside proper, unhurried time for it. You'll still receive a treatment in the same visit: the conversation comes first, the treatment second.

The extra time at the first visit isn't a formality. It's the foundation the rest of your care is built on.

Been in before? Book a follow-up

If you've had your initial appointment with us, you're on to follow-up acupuncture. These run for 60 minutes. Each one begins with a check-in on how you've been since we last saw you, and the treatment is then adjusted to where your body is on the day rather than repeating a fixed formula.

Follow-ups build directly on the history and assessment from your initial visit, which is why we ask everyone to start with an initial appointment first, even if you've had acupuncture elsewhere before.

Still not sure?

If you're genuinely unsure, or you have a question before committing to anything, please just get in touch. We're always happy to help you work out where to start — there's no wrong first step.
